Introducing Curator Mr. Chick Fedel

The curator of the SciTechatorium is Mr. Chick Fedel. Most of the articles and exhibits in the museum are a compilation of Mr. Fedel's life work and passions. His collection has been described by many as the most impressive collection of hands on science artifacts they have ever seen, rivaling that of many world museums.
During the mid-seventies, around the time the Smithsonian Institute set up their "Discovery Room" project in Washington D.C., at the National Museun of Natural History, he started a "hands on" science museum. That first science museum was fully staffed by junior high students who acted as docents and junior curators. They gave daily tours to visiting students, giving a quality science experience to thousands annually. Now, almost thirty years later, we are continuing that experience in a brand new 1900 square foot facility at Bellevue-Santa Fe Charter School.
Because of the "hands on" science museums, Mr. Fedel has received honorary recognition from the Scientific Research Society - Sigma Xi, for his promotion of the sciences to young people. He has received Resolutions and Proclamations from the California State Assembly and Senate. He is proud to have been featured on KNBC Los Angeles' Television documentary, The Spirit of Education.
It has always been Mr. Fedel's belief that so much more can be gained by a young person touching the feathers of a bird, the fur of a mammal, exploring the annual growth rings of an old redwood tree, or holding an ancient fossil, as opposed to just reading about them. The contact with these specimens create a unique interactive experience for our students and visitors alike.
